The shaving fun Ken doll is a great concept. He has a 'beard' can be 'shaved' in any way you want - give him a handlebar mustache, a Boys 2 Men outline beard, or a goatee. It can be kind of fun to style his beard in all kinds of ways.
There are a few things I didn't like about the Ken doll: his hair is stiff and not brushable. It seems a shame that only his beard can be styled. Also, his legs are hollow hard plastic so he isn't really posable or able to do more than bend at the waist.
In all, a cute concept and one that my 7 year old likes using since it is rare that the guys can be styled.

I was excited to get this Ken for my doll stories but after I had unpacked him and taken a good look at him, I noticed Mattel hadn't improved this technology since when I was a kid (they have used and still use this technology in different ways and it never quite worked right). My HAND (the bit of warmth and possible SLIGHT wetness?) had fully removed his beard, scruff, shadow, whatever. I had forgotten about this flaw, but it came back to me now! Adding back his facial hair was comparatively "too" difficult, too! Simple cold tap water didn't work, neither did icy water, but I did use a bowl with ice and room temperature water (I had out already for styling dolls' hair) partially to test exactly how cold this needed to be. I had to touch his "shaver" to the actual ice cubes to get it cold enough, but perhaps cold tap water + ice works better. I just find it so funny how opposite the two processes are! What's worse is his hair came back slightly patchy, with a piece missing from his chin (I had worked hard for minutes also facing difficulty getting his mustache back!) and one side of his face had his hair showing much stronger. I even then tried pouring the super icy water over his face, but it didn't add any extra color. After all this, his face and neck were pretty wet, but I made sure to stick a towel in the freezer before I dabbed him somewhat dry. At least he's a handsome Ken who looks kinder and more "normal" (at least to an adult my age) than some of the Fashionistas and Basics. Also, I like the hair on top of his head just fine. It's already in a far better style than the horrible Fashionista Ken hair! Plus, even though he's not articulated, at least his arms are ready to embrace Barbie, which is better than my old Kens I have on hand with straight arms. I will probably just use acrylic paint to give him a full beard even though it will ruin this, actually terrible, feature and change some plans for Barbie story photos I had planned. I found it cute how he looked younger clean-shaven (could have been an adorable bonus had the doll worked right) but now I think I have to choose between terrible "growth"/gingerly avoiding his face [is he a good candidate for a re-body since we should avoid turning his head anyway? (mentioned because, typically, after a re-body and glue, Kens can't move their heads: very different from female Barbies)] and the option to switch. It's a shame this toy doesn't work right! I wish at least that the shave feature were reversed and my normal/human warmth of my hand would add his his 5 o'clock shadow, since that's his more interesting look! (Also that might make some sense that it would "appear on its own". Gee, Mattel should hire me, haha.) Bottom line: Get the Ken if you like his face/hair and note: his overshirt isn't THAT bad and his t-shirt underneath is nice, thank goodness it isn't just a tank top! Also, I really like his other accessories. Don't get the Ken for his facial hair or "fun for kids" play alone. Create or buy an OOAK for if you want a beard or scruff/growth, with or without this specific doll I think kids might get very frustrated with a doll that has this (poor) feature, so keep that in mind if you're a parent. (Note, I can't promise dolls with this feature can be painted over as well as others, but I'm imagining he'll end up relatively the same as painted normal dolls. Please do your own research first. This may or may not involve using acetone on his current "scruff" but I can't find any articles online about this.)
